Wied Ghollieqa outing
Wied Għollieqa is a good example of a restored habitat. Since 1990, the site managers, Nature Trust (Malta), have strived to convert a number of abandoned fields into typical local habitats. Through management a number of zones were established, including four types of woodland (Cypress, Aleppo Pine, Sandarac Gum Tree, Holm Oak/Aleppo Pine), a riparian habitat that has a temporary watercourse and pond and a maquis area.
Available for use during the visit are leaflets, an interactive presentation of the place itself and an educational pack for teachers reflecting the current biology syllabus with a number of suggested activities and resources.
