EkoSkola, LEAF & YRE 2025–2026 Annual Seminar for Educators
November 30, 2025The EkoSkola, LEAF, and YRE Annual Seminar was successfully held on Friday, 28th November 2025, at the Xrobb l-Għaġin Nature Park and Sustainable Development Centre. The event brought together 69 educators from 30 different schools, representing both state and non-state institutions across Malta. This attendance is a demonstration of the ever-growing enthusiasm among educators to embed sustainability into everyday teaching and school culture.
Organised by Nature Trust – FEE Malta, the seminar aimed to strengthen the implementation of the three international programmes which collectively engage over 20 million young people worldwide and reach 87% of Malta’s student population. The seminar offered a dynamic mix of sessions and practical activities:
- Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE): Participants took part in a hands-on workshop on planning YRE missions, with a special focus on podcast production. Teachers were encouraged to use mobile devices and cameras to explore creative reporting methods.
- LEAF Session: Educators experienced outdoor learning through a guided tour of Malta’s first Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, highlighting the importance of ecosystems and biodiversity.
- EkoSkola Session: This session addressed challenges identified in last year’s school questionnaire and explored practical strategies to strengthen the programme within schools.

Each session also provided updates on accreditation processes, ensuring schools remain aligned with international standards.
A networking break allowed participants to exchange ideas while practising sustainability by bringing their own reusable travel cups. The atmosphere was collaborative, with educators sharing experiences and building connections across schools.
